Bedroom & Ensuite Bathroom
This 4-bedroom detached house was built in the 60's and is located in a village overlooking
the village green. The owners are in their sixties and like a mixture of old and
new decor. The existing room was peach and cream, floral and rather dated, and, horror
of horrors, had woodchip wallpaper which had been painted over several times! The
brief was to put forward a scheme which combined old with new, using quite natural
shades, but retaining the recently laid moss green carpet. Wildest Dreams Design
decided to go for 'shabby chic'scheme, with chateau-style off-white French furniture.
A large double wardrobe, dressing table, stool headboards and bedside table were
sourced at half the recommended retail price. The woodchip paper was removed (a long
and arduous process!) and the walls painted with a Fired Earth natural cream.
A creamy-gold heavy satin fabric was chosen, which had a large embossed flower motif
with cream, gold and moss green colours. The fabric was used for curtains, cushions
for the bed and a chair, plus a runner for each bed. And, to add that special focus
to the room, a local artist was commissioned to paint the flower motif - which he
did so beautifully, it looks like a framed piece of the fabric.
The ensuite bathroom already had quite an ornate suite, comprising jacuzzi bath,
bidet, WC and sink, as well as the same moss green carpet. The walls were painted
in the same colour as the bedroom, and a large chest of drawers from the same French
chateau-style range was added. In addition, a local cabinet fitter produced some
fitted cupboards and units in exactly the same style. The floral, flouncy blinds
were replaced by plain, cream, more modern ones, and all of the ornaments replaced
with modern glass and fluffy towels.
